Content Marketing

BuzzFeed.com

Buzzfeed has a plot to design a demographic that appeals to all audiences. They cover many different topics on many different platforms and the topics they cover are very broad whether it be for entertainment purposes such as they different funny personality quizzes or discussing more relatable topics such as parenthood. Buzzfeed is a place that provides a path that can appeal to you specifically and keep you coming back for more once you find what you are looking for, which is why they have so many different channels and articles. It has casted a huge net of genres and categories that intertwine to create its own environment for online communities. In addition, with their simplistic layout, they are easily able to guide their audiences to different areas of their site and make it easy for the user to get lost in not just content but content that they want to read and visit.

Blog Ideas

Rollerblading

Of the topics that I went over with my partner, rollerblading had the best response. I plan to discuss the culture of rollerblading and at the same time give popular locations for the sport. I want to include a tutorial page as well that will link off to YouTube pro tutorials as well as self written step by step guides for the basics.

Pros:

  • Niche, the topic is focused on a specific community
  • Sustainable, the location page and about page would be regularly updated with current events and current popular locations regularly
  • I am passionate about the topic.

Cons:

  • Niche, a focused topic is good, but the target community is already small
  • The tutorial page may be difficult to manage as some could be looking for the basics and others would want to learn tricks.

Key Words

My keywords are difficult to pick from because skating has many different interpretations like skate boarding, ice skating, street skating, speed skating, Olympic skating, roller skating, and many others. So I am thinking I may go broad and then have a few specific ones to narrow things down.

Skating/Skate

This will bring in the skating audience who are most likely interested in my blog. Although not specific, it could still generate an audience.

Inline Skating/ Inline Skate

This was intended to be the primary draw, but its results in the Keyword Plan and Google Trends are low.

Roller Skating/ Roller Skate

Roller Skating is mainly searched to find roller rinks or other facilities for classic roller skates. I could either use this audience to draw new people into inline skating or broaden my blog to include both classic skates and inline skates.

I plan to go over advanced skating techniques and tricks for those who are looking to move on to the next level. These techniques are difficult to describe in words and often require a visual aid to understand. Pictures may be useful for a reference, but a video with in depth explanation will give the listener exactly what they need to properly pull off these techniques.

The video will consist of a reference video of the chosen technique with overlaid audio and text to enhance the understanding. This will be done for several advanced techniques.

What do you like?

I like the atmosphere of my blog so far. The posts are going well, navigation works properly and everything can be found.

What is lacking?

Other than generally finding things the user experience is poor. Things don’t flow like I want them to. Allot of the posts so far have been some sort of tutorial so for my next addition I want to do something different. Hyperlinking between recent posts and other ease of use features have not been integrated properly, so I would like to improve that aspect as well.

What have you learned?

I have learned that it is very hard to make a professional looking and feeling blog when using a “free version.” So many features are unavailable to really make your site unique. I have been coping with this hindrance, but i would like to find some sort of solution before the final due date.

What do you long for going forward?

I want my site to look professional, have a defined atmosphere, easily navigated, and containing useful content. The biggest issue for me is the overall feel of the site, so for the future its improvement will be the primary focus.
